Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 28, 2026
Just Listen is an open-source, client-side music player built for Android and iOS. This Privacy Policy explains our approach to data privacy, what information is processed by the app, and how third-party integrations affect your data.
1. Direct Data Collection
We believe in absolute privacy. Just Listen does not collect, harvest, or transmit any personal data.
- No Account Required: You can use all core playback and search features of the app without creating an account or providing any personal information.
- No Remote Analytics or Tracking: The app does not contain third-party advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or remote telemetry. Any usage analytics or stats (like play counts) are generated and stored exclusively on your device, unless you choose to authenticate with an Audius account, in which case your interactions and account data are processed under the Audius Privacy Policy.
- No Central Servers: We do not operate any backend servers. Your search requests and streams are handled directly through decentralized API connections.
2. Local Storage (On-Device Data)
To provide a rich media experience and offline functionality, the app stores certain information locally on your device. This data includes:
- Local custom playlists
- Your favorited tracks/albums (when not synced online)
- Local usage analytics, play history, and listening insights (e.g., play counts, skip rates, and most-listened tracks)
- App settings and customized themes
This data is stored securely in a local database on your phone and never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to authenticate and sync your data with the Audius network.
3. Third-Party Integrations & Audius Protocol
Just Listen is powered by the public, decentralized Audius API. When you stream music or search for tracks, requests are sent directly to the public nodes of the Audius network.
Important Information Regarding Audius Authentication:
If you choose to sign in using an Audius account to sync your library:
- Your authentication, credentials, and profile details are securely managed directly by the Audius network.
- All online interactions—such as saving a song to your Audius favorites, creating/editing cloud-synced playlists, or posting comments—are sent to, processed by, and stored on the decentralized Audius network nodes.
- These activities are governed by the third-party Audius Privacy Policy. Just Listen has no ownership, control, or direct administrative access to the data stored on the decentralized Audius network.
4. App Permissions
To run properly, the app may request specific system permissions on your device:
- Network Access: Required to query the Audius API and stream high-quality audio files.
- Photo Library / Storage Access: Required only if you choose to select a custom profile picture from your local device.
- Background Audio: Required to continue playing audio files while the screen is locked or the app is minimized.
5. Data Deletion and Control
- Local Data: You can erase all local data, playlists, and settings at any time by clearing the app’s cache and data in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.
- Audius Cloud Data: To delete data stored on the Audius network (e.g., account details, synced favorites, or cloud playlists), you must manage your account directly through the official Audius platform or contact Audius support.
